# West Brom: Baggies in talks with Carlos Carvalhal

**[West Bromwich Albion](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-brom-news/) are in ‘talks’ with former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal over the vacant manager’s job at The Hawthorns, according to journalist Lewis Cox.**

### The Lowdown: Manager search goes on

It is now approaching two weeks since Steve Bruce was [shown the exit door](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/oct/10/steve-bruce-sacked-by-west-brom-after-poor-start-to-the-season) by Albion following a hugely below-par start to their [Championship](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/championship-news/) season.

Since then, the search has been ongoing for the Baggies to find a suitable replacement, but they haven’t yet found a permanent successor to the 61-year-old.

A new managerial candidate has entered the fray – one with plenty of experience in English football.

### The Latest: ‘Talks’ with Carvalhal

According to Cox on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/LewisCox_star/status/1583455709483524096?s=20&t=6xFULjcpKD5dPIUK2plzlA), West Brom are eyeing up Carvalhal as their possible new manager.

The Midlands football journalist tweeted:

> “Understand talks between #wba and out-of-work Portuguese boss Carlos Carvalhal. Ex-Sheff Wed and Swans boss interviewed by Blackburn in summer. Last job was in UAE until start of this month. Now strong favourite among betting.”

### The Verdict: Intriguing option for Baggies

Carvalhal could be a very interesting potential appointment for the Baggies, having taken Sheffield Wednesday to the [Championship play-off final](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36348885) in 2016 and the [semi-finals](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39866499) the following year.

Furthermore, the 56-year-old was in charge at Swansea City in 2017/18 during [their time in the Premier League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carlos-carvalhal/leistungsdatenDetail/trainer/1588/wettbewerb_id/GB1), and he is famed for some [outside-of-the-box](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43004470) methods.

\[freshpress-poll id=”405077″\]

He has a close relationship with Jose Mourinho, with the pair described as ‘[good friends](https://talksport.com/football/357739/carlos-carvalhal-gives-glowing-praise-jose-mourinho-ahead-manchester-united-v-swansea-game/)‘, and has called the current AS Roma boss the “[king of football](https://talksport.com/football/357739/carlos-carvalhal-gives-glowing-praise-jose-mourinho-ahead-manchester-united-v-swansea-game/)“.

There may be some trepidation because Carvalhal hasn’t managed in England for [almost four-and-a-half years](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carlos-carvalhal/stationen/trainer/1588), but two seasons at Braga between 2020 and 2022 – during which he [twice took them](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carlos-carvalhal/leistungsdatenInternational/trainer/1588) to the Europa League knockout rounds – show that he can perform at a high level.
