# West Brom: Joe Chapman provides latest on Steve Bruce’s future

**[West Bromwich Albion](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-brom-news/) manager Steve Bruce’s future remains up in the air after the 3-2 defeat to Swansea City, according to reliable journalist Joe Chapman.**

### The Lowdown: West Brom lose at home

The Baggies were desperately in need of a [Championship](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/championship-news/) victory on Saturday afternoon, with Bruce’s side welcoming the Swans to The Hawthorns.

Instead, West Brom suffered another abject result, taking a 2-1 lead during the second half but eventually surrendering their promising position and losing 3-2 to an 89th-minute decider from Michael Obafemi.

It was a defeat which heaped further pressure on Bruce, who was the recipient of “sacked in the morning” jibes from both sets of supporters as many Albion supporters [vented their fury](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/oct/01/championship-roundup-west-brom-fans-turn-on-steve-bruce-after-defeat).

### The Latest: Bruce carrying on

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/ChapmanJ92/status/1576260522391003137?s=20&t=GV0qPI6-RKJNaiO2OyuqHQ) on Saturday evening, [The Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/west-brom-steve-bruce-future-25156057)‘s Chapman revealed that the West Brom manager has been told he isn’t sacked yet.

The reporter stated:

> “Asked Bruce if he has had any reassurances regarding his future, and whether he has spoken to board/owner. For now, he’s carrying on until told otherwise.”

### The Verdict: Seems only a matter of time

It really does feel like only a matter of time until Bruce is relieved of his duties, with performances and results simply nowhere near good enough this season.

For West Brom to be languishing in [21st](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table) place and perilously above the relegation zone is unacceptable in October, particularly when they have the fifth-highest squad market value in the Championship (as per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/startseite/wettbewerb/GB2)), so a managerial change seems needed.

It would not be a big surprise if Bruce isn’t in charge for the Baggies’ next game away to Preston on Wednesday night, with replacements surely being eyed up as numerous supporters at The Hawthorns [made their feelings crystal-clear](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/west-brom-steve-bruce-future-25156057#:~:text=Chants%20of%20%27you%27re%20getting%20sacked%20in%20the%20morning%27%20met%20the%20final%20whistle%2C%20amid%20the%20jeers%20and%20boos%20which%20rung%20around%20the%20stadium%2C%20produced%20by%20the%20few%20who%20hadn%27t%20decided%20to%20leave%20early.%20Bruce%2C%20though%2C%20is%20%2D%20for%20now%20%2D%20continuing%20to%20prepare%20for%20Preston%20North%20End%20unless%20he%20hears%20from%20above.) yesterday.
