# West Brom eyeing up raid on Championship rivals with a move for Ipswich’s Jonas Knudsen

West Brom are eyeing up a raid on fellow Championship side Ipswich with left-back Jonas Knudsen in their sights, as Darren Moore looks to strengthen his side to ensure that they are as well equipped as possible for a promotion push.

### **What’s the word, then?**

According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-middlesbrough-and-stoke-plot-moves-to-sign-ipswich-player/), the Baggies, along with Middlesbrough and Stoke, are interested in signing the Danish international full-back, whose contract with the Tractor Boys is set to expire in the summer.

Paul Lambert would prefer to keep the 26-year-old at Portman Road. However, Knudsen has informed the Championship’s bottom-placed side that he would like to explore avenues away from the club, which has left Ipswich in a bit of a difficult situation with just over a week left to go in the January transfer window.

The club must now cash in on the left-back, who has made 22 league starts so far this season, or risk losing him on a free in the summer as he allows his contract to run down.

### **The Verdict**

Lambert has already moved to sign another left-back in Callum Elder on loan from Leicester, which suggests that he is preparing for life without Knudsen at Ipswich.

A move for another left-back may be, however, a bit of a waste of money from Moore and the Baggies, as they already have an extremely competent and vastly experienced left-back in Kieran Gibbs at the club, along with 25-year-old Conor Townsend to call upon as back up.

Having lost nine-goal Harvey Barnes back to his parent club Leicester, perhaps Moore should instead focus his efforts on finding a new left-winger to replace the 21-year-old’s goal threat and keep the push for an immediate return to Premier League action on track – the Midlands-based side sit in fourth place, and have an excellent chance of promotion.
