# West Bromwich Albion: Fans rage as Saido Berahino says he would like to go back to The Hawthorns

**Many West Brom fans have reacted furiously to comments made by former Albion striker Saido Berahino hinting that he would like to return to the club.**

The Burundi international was speaking on the [Counter Attack](https://www.acast.com/en/counterattackpodcast) podcast \[via [Express & Star](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2020/05/11/saido-berahino-id-jump-at-chance-of-west-brom-return/)\] when he said that he would “100 per cent” go back to The Hawthorns if the Baggies made him an offer in the future. A link to his comments was shared on Twitter by journalist Joseph Masi (via [@JosephMasi\_Star](https://twitter.com/JosephMasi_Star/status/1259847959333740548)).

Berahino said: “If West Brom came back in for me, I would jump back – 100 per cent. I support West Brom, I follow their games. My friend (Romaine Sawyers) plays for them. If they came back for me 100 per cent I would go back.”

Now playing in Belgium for [Zulte Waregem](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saido-berahino/profil/spieler/128897), the 26-year-old broke through at West Brom in 2013 and famously [scored a winning goal at Old Trafford](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24184928) before netting [14 Premier League goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saido-berahino/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/128897) in the 2014/15 season.

However, he was put up for sale by Albion in 2015 over his poor attitude and desire for a move away (as per [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/west-bromwich-albion/11392499/Saido-Berahino-put-up-for-sale-by-furious-West-Bromwich-Albion.html)) and insisted that he would never again play for Jeremy Peace after the club rejected a transfer request (as per [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34126102)). He was eventually sold to Stoke in January 2017 as then-Baggies manager Tony Pulis urged him to “get his act together” (as per [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38706000)).

After going [913 days without a senior goal](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45254730) until netting in August 2018, Berahino was sacked by Stoke six months later after he was found guilty of drink-driving (as per [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11701/11728924/stoke-sack-saido-berahino)). Last year, he was castigated by ex-Potters team-mate Glen Johnson on [talkSPORT](https://twitter.com/talksport/status/1159422830691475469?lang=en), who said: “He had the wrong mentality, the wrong attitude from day one.”

These West Brom fans on Twitter voiced their opposition to any potential Hawthorns return for the 26-year-old:

> Sure his current club are delighted to hear this. Lad just never learns. All that talent, but cannot help himself

> Funny, just yesterday I watched the 14/15 season review, reminded me what a great finisher he was, how he could have been a very good PL and England striker… had he not lost the plot and acted as unprofessionally as anyone could, for years. There’s no way back now.

> He’s burnt his bridges for me, which is a shame as he had loads of talent. Badly advised and too temperamental.

> The bond our current team has? No chance mate, I’ve not seen this much togetherness in our team since god knows when, this would tarnish everything

> Noooooooo way. The club and fans gave him everything when he had nothing. Could have been a legend like super Bob and cyrlle etc.
