# West Brom: Fans slam Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ first half display

**Many West Brom fans have been left to slam the display of Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the first half of their home game versus Newcastle United.**

The England international was [guilty of misplacing a pass](https://www.skysports.com/football/w-brom-vs-newcastle/429105) in what was a very good opportunity for Sam Allardyce’s men to score at The Hawthorns after a nice break in the 15th minute.

In such a vital game at the bottom of the table in the Premier League, moments like those can be crucial for the Baggies as it could have given them a nice early lead and thus allowed them to settle down for the rest of the match.

Nonetheless, Maitland-Niles – who is currently [on loan](https://www.wba.co.uk/news/maitland-niles-joins-albion-loan) from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal – will know that he needs to do much better in those kind of positions if he [wants to play in the centre of midfield](https://theathletic.com/2359748/2021/02/01/maitland-niles-wants-to-play-midfield-for-west-brom-and-make-it-to-the-euros/), whether that would be for the Albion or the Gunners.
