West Bromwich Albion are reportedly confident that they will be able to get a deal over the line for Millwall winger Jed Wallace at some point in the near future, according to Football League World.

The Lowdown: Wallace set to become a free agent

The 28-year-old put pen to paper on a permanent deal at The Den in 2017 after impressing during his two separate loan spells from Wolves in the seasons prior, and he has since gone on to make a total of 259 appearances for the London club.

The forward’s current contract with the Lions is set to expire at the end of the season, making him a free agent for any potential suitors interested in securing his services in the summer. Following a fresh update, it would appear as though the Baggies might just be one of those clubs.

The Latest: West Brom ‘confident’ of landing Wallace

In an article published by Football League World, it is claimed that West Brom have lately been ‘holding talks’ with Wallace, adding that Steve Bruce is ‘close’ to getting this move completed.

The source further states that the Millwall winger is a name that’s at the ‘top’ of the Albion manager’s wish list, with the Baggies ‘confident’ of reaching an agreement for their target in the coming months.

The Verdict: Bruce’s family connections

After a disappointing 2021/22 Championship season, Bruce will be hoping to bolster his ranks with plenty of new additions ahead of the new campaign to give his side the best chance of making a serious push for promotion, and the 28-year-old could be the perfect candidate.

Wallace, who was once dubbed “unplayable” by his manager Gary Rowett, provided six goals and 11 assists in the league this season (as per Transfermarkt), which played a huge role in the Lions almost earning a place in the play-offs.

The Baggies could hold a huge advantage over any competitors due to Bruce’s family connection. His son-in-law is Salford striker Matt Smith, who used to play alongside Wallace at The Den; and should the forward put in a good word for his father-in-law, it wouldn’t come as any surprise to see the current Millwall star donning Albion's navy blue and white stripes later this year.
