Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett has now revealed a significant West Brom update on their manager search.

The Lowdown: Plans accelerated

Taking to Twitter this morning, Dorsett revealed that plans to bring in a new manager at the Hawthorns are 'likely to accelerate' after Tuesday night's 2-0 loss to home to Bristol City in the Championship.

The Midlands club have spoken to 'more than ten' potential candidates for the job, with CEO Ron Gourlay determined to carry out an 'exhaustive' search.

The Latest: Talks soon

Dorsett took to Twitter again on Wednesday to give a further update on the situation, revealing that the Baggies intend to speak to their managerial candidates about the vacancy in the 'next few days', with 'a few names' at the top of their priority list:

"Update on this: I’m told WBA plan to speak to their preferred candidates in the next few days with “a few names” top of their priority list. Process won’t be rushed, but hierarchy aware of the urgency."

The Verdict: Worrying

It has been nine days since Steve Bruce was sacked by Albion, and so it is worrying to hear that a firm lead candidate has not yet been decided by the board.

Although there was an immediate boost with the 2-0 win away at Reading over the weekend, WBA sunk straight back down to reality with yet another defeat against Bristol City.

It leaves them still dangerously entangled in the relegation race, and acts as a reminder that a new manager needs to come in soon in order to stamp his authority on the team and try and change their fortunes.

The likes of Plymouth Argyle's Steven Schumacher and Millwall's Gary Rowett have been linked with the vacancy, and so the club should be expected to whittle their list down to their preferred candidate within the next week.
