West Bromwich Albion could reportedly pip Birmingham City to Manchester United forward Tahith Chong.

The Lowdown: Chong profiled

Hailed as ‘fantastic’ by former Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the 22-year-old is primarily a right winger but can also lineout on the left or as an attacking midfielder.

He has been prolific at youth level for United, scoring 26 goals and providing 18 assists for their various underage teams.

Chong actually shares the same agent as Albion striker Karlan Grant and has spent time on loan in Germany, Belgium and in the Championship with Birmingham.

It looks like he could be on the move once again, with a late switch to the Baggies being mooted.

The Latest: West Brom keen

According to journalist Darren Witcoop, Chong could be moving to The Hawthorns instead of making a return to St Andrew’s with Birmingham.

The reporter said that ‘Chong could now be heading to West Brom on loan rather than returning to St Andrew’s’.

However, Fabrizio Romano has since confirmed that Chong will rejoin Birmingham with a medical already planned.

The Verdict: Worth a go

Hijacking a deal is always an exciting prospect, especially on deadline day, so a move for the 22-year-old was worth a go. Chong would have given Steve Bruce another versatile attacking option, something which appears needed at The Hawthorns with Albion picking up just eight points from their opening seven Championship games.

They have scored just 11 times in the league so far this term, so hopefully, the club will be on the hunt for a new forward instead of Chong.
