West Brom are 'expected' to approach former Middlesborough manager Chris Wilder over their managerial vacancy.

The Lowdown: Wilder profiled

Wilder is currently without a job after parting ways with fellow Championship side Middlesborough earlier this month. The 55-year-old, who actually shares the same agent as Darnell Furlong, won just 19 of his 45 games in charge, spending less than a year at the Riverside.

He likes to use a 3-5-2 system and holds a UEFA Pro Licence, enjoying plenty of success with former club Sheffield United, taking them from League One to the Premier League.

The Latest: West Brom talks?

The Mirror’s James Nursey provided an update on West Brom’s search for a new manager on Monday. He claimed that the club have drawn up a three-man shortlist, with Wilder ‘expected to be spoken to’.

Nursey also name-checked former Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan and Millwall manager Gary Rowett as possible successors to Steve Bruce.

The Verdict: Smart option?

Although he didn’t enjoy great success with Boro, Wilder has shown in the past with Sheffield United that he can improve and transform a struggling side with time.

He has plenty of knowledge when it comes to the EFL, so he could be a wiser target than someone like Michael Carrick, who has also been linked with a move to The Hawthorns despite having no previous first-team managerial experience.

It looks as if West Brom officials have plenty of managers in mind, though, so the links to Wilder could be one to watch in the coming days.
