West Brom are set to sign free agent and former Albion midfielder Okay Yokuslu, according to Turkish outlet Takvim.

The Lowdown: Loan spell

Yokuslu already has a previous stint at The Hawthorns to his name after joining on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 season. The Turkey international made 16 appearances for the Baggies but couldn’t prevent them from dropping straight back down to the Championship.

Capable of playing anywhere in midfield and at centre-back, the 28-year-old powerhouse recently left Celta Vigo at the end of his contract, and a return to the English Midlands appears to be on the cards.

The Latest: Yokuslu to West Brom latest

Takvim provided an update regarding Yokuslu’s future on Wednesday afternoon.

They said that the midfielder is ‘about to sign’ for West Brom despite holding talks with Galatasaray and Besiktas, who were both keen on his services.

The Verdict: Shrewd move?

Steve Bruce has already brought in three players this summer in Jayson Molumby, John Swift and Jed Wallace at a combined cost of just £900,000.

Yokuslu, who has scored 25 goals during his career for club and country, appears to be another prospective free transfer for the Baggies, for whom he averaged 2.4 tackles and 2.2 interceptions per game as a no-nonsense defensive midfielder.

The 6 foot 4 beast is a player who already knows the club well and has an abundance of top-level experience across Europe.

He caught the eye during his temporary spell with Albion and became a regular under Sam Allardyce, and hopefully he’ll be able to help the club fight for promotion under Bruce if he returns to West Brom.
