Journalist Lewis Cox has described West Brom forward Brandon Thomas-Asante’s story as ‘unbelievable’ after his dramatic equaliser against Burnley.
The Lowdown: Dramatic draw at the Hawthorns
The Baggies hosted the Clarets on Friday night as Steve Bruce’s side looked to pick up just their second Championship victory of the season.
While the three points weren’t secured in the end, it ultimately proved to be a positive evening overall and one that will surely lift spirits and confidence both in the stands and the dressing room.
In the 98th minute, debutant Thomas-Asante fired home to earn the Baggies a point, following Jay Rodriguez’s penalty opener, sending The Hawthorns wild in the process.
The Latest: Journalist hails ‘unbelievable’ attacker
“Unbelievable finale and unbelievable story. Some noise in this place when that went in. Could hardly have dreamed it better last night – from the fourth tier to instant Hawthorns goal hero.”
The Verdict: Fairytale stuff
After such a frustrating end to the transfer window, which saw a move for Josh Onomah fall through at the last minute, this was exactly what everyone associated with West Brom needed.
Will West Brom gain promotion next season?
For Thomas-Asante to score the equaliser on his debut made it even more of a fairytale end after a grim 24 hours or so, with the 23-year-old playing for Ebbsfleet United back in 2019, and then Salford City.
The hope is that the Englishman can continue to be a regular source of goals from the substitutes’ bench moving forward, making up for the loss of the injured Daryl Dike.
