West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing prolific Championship striker Lewis Grabban in the summer transfer window, according to a new rumour which has emerged.

The Lowdown: Grabban a proven Championship performer

The 34-year-old has scored 112 times in the Championship down the years, placing him fifth on the scoring list in the division dating back over the last 40 years.

Grabban is behind only Billy Sharp, David Nugent, Ross McCormack and Jordan Rhodes in that list, which says plenty about his pedigree as a proven performer in the second tier.

The veteran attacker is currently without a club, though, having left Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

The Latest: West Brom keen on Grabban

According to Football League World, West Brom are interested in signing Grabban this summer, with the club 'in talks' with him over a move to The Hawthorns.

Personal terms haven't yet been agreed but it does seem to be a transfer which is moving in the right direction, with the Englishman available on a free.

The Verdict: Guaranteed goals to ease problem

While Grabban's best days are likely behind him, he could be an ideal figure to come in and ease the Baggies' striker woes, with Daryl Dike out injured for a number of months.

The 34-year-old could be a great backup to Karlan Grant and he is still more than capable of making a telling impact, scoring 12 goals in 23 starts for Forest in the Championship last season as they earned promotion to the Premier League.

Reds manager Steve Cooper has described Grabban as a 'brilliant' player in the past, and considering that the forward is available on a free transfer, he is very much worth taking a punt upon.
