West Brom are closing in on re-signing their former midfielder Okay Yokuslu, with journalist Fabrizio Romano providing a fresh update on the situation.

The Lowdown: Yokuslu's West Brom past

The Turk was a popular figure at The Hawthorns during a stint on loan in 2021, proving to be an influential performer in midfield and making 16 appearances.

Unfortunately, West Brom's relegation from the Premier League saw Yokuslu depart instead of his loan move becoming permanent, and he has since played for Getafe on a temporary basis.

It now looks as though a reunion with the Baggies is highly likely, following the end of his time at Celta Vigo as he ran down his contract in Galicia.

The Latest: Romano says deal nearly done

Taking to Twitter, Romano claimed that the move was all but done, with Yokuslu just needing to be granted a work permit in order for the transfer to go through.

The journalist tweeted:

"Turkish international Okay Yokuşlu has passed medicals and signed the contract with West Bromwich, after terminating contract with Celtic Vigo.

"All parties waiting for work permit then it will be official."

The Verdict: Superb signing

This is great news for West Brom, with Yokuslu making a lasting impression during his loan spell in 2021 and proving to be influential from the middle of the park.

The 28-year-old won 2.6 aerial duels per game in the Premier League, along with 2.4 tackles and 2.2 interceptions (second and first in Albion's squad respectively), showing what a tenacious presence he had been for the Baggies previously.

Yokuslu has the influence and ability to take the Championship by storm next season, hopefully playing a pivotal role in Steve Bruce's team's mission to return to the top flight.
