Many West Brom fans have been left to slam the display of Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the first half of their home game versus Newcastle United.

The England international was guilty of misplacing a pass in what was a very good opportunity for Sam Allardyce's men to score at The Hawthorns after a nice break in the 15th minute.

In such a vital game at the bottom of the table in the Premier League, moments like those can be crucial for the Baggies as it could have given them a nice early lead and thus allowed them to settle down for the rest of the match.

Nonetheless, Maitland-Niles - who is currently on loan from Mikel Arteta's Arsenal - will know that he needs to do much better in those kind of positions if he wants to play in the centre of midfield, whether that would be for the Albion or the Gunners.

These WBA supporters slammed his performance in the first half on Twitter, with one fan even going as far to claim that the 23-year-old was playing 'rubbish':

"Am I the only one who thinks AMN has been super underwhelming? Definitely hasn’t made the impact he was touted to, and his final 1/3 decision making can be poor. #WBANEW"
