Many West Brom fans have been left to slam the display of Matheus Pereira in their 0-0 draw away at Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawthorns faithful went down to ten men in the first half as Semi Ajayi was adjudged to have deliberately handled the ball and thus deny Matej Vydra a potential goal-scoring opportunity.
Is Pereira the most important player to West Brom?
Despite this, Sam Allardyce’s men had the better chances to win the game in the second half, with Pereira himself guilty of wasting a golden chance, while several Albion supporters were also very critical of his poor delivery from set pieces.
The 24-year-old did not have the best of matches by his usual high standards, losing no fewer than six of his duels and failing to make a single accurate cross (Sofascore).
He also lost possession of the ball 16 times and recorded only 42 touches of the ball in total, fewer than his own goalkeeper in Sam Johnstone (Sofascore).
West Brom fan reaction to Pereira display
These Baggies slammed his performance on Twitter, with one WBA fan claiming that the Brazilian winger was ‘poor’:
“Why can Pereira no longer take a decent corner? What is that about? #wba”
“Can somebody take Pereira of set pieces please? So much wasted today!! A point is just not good enough, but tbh part of me just loves the Championship, proper football and no VAR, the Premier League with VAR just isn’t for me, shame it’s where all the finances are #wba”
“Credit to the battle and commitment with 10 men. Can’t blame Allardyce for some poor individual performances, in particular Pereira. However, I can blame him for not bringing likes of Robinson on when game opened up #WBA”
“We should be winning that man. Pereira very poor, needs to release the ball so much quicker. Diagne should have scored but signs of how good he is. If only we had this team at the start of the season #wba”
“Pereira has been absolutely awful today. Always been a massive fan of him but I can’t defend him today… #WBA”
“Pereira doesn’t absorb all of the offensive options open to him when we mount an attack. No peripheral vision. #WBA”
