Roy Keane has laughed off suggestions that he is the favourite to replace Steve Bruce as West Brom manager, via Joe Chapman.

The Lowdown: Baggies looking for new manager

Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to Luton Town in the Championship proved to be the final straw for Bruce, who found himself sacked on Monday morning.

The Baggies are now on the lookout for a new boss, with it essential that they bring in someone who can steer the team well clear of the relegation zone.

Keane had emerged as the favourite to take charge at the Hawthorns but that now looks highly unlikely.

The Latest: Keane shrugs off rumour

Taking to Twitter, Chapman shared Keane's comments that there is no truth in the rumour, with the Manchester United legend revealing his thoughts on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football:

"Roy Keane has described the speculation linking him with the #wba job as ‘absolute rubbish’: 'It’s bizarre. Bookies can play silly games with people. Speculation over the last 24/48 hours is absolute rubbish.'"

The Verdict: Wrong man for the job

While Keane was a great player and now finds himself a generally popular pundit on television, there are still serious question marks about his managerial expertise.

The 51-year-old now hasn't managed a team since leaving Ipswich Town way back in 2011, with only assistant roles for the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest coming his way.

West Brom need a manager with a proven and recent track record - someone who represents both the future and a long-term appointment, rather than a yesterday's man who may be able to work some brief magic before leaving again.

Someone like Chris Wilder has been name-checked and could be a good option, in that respect, considering he took Sheffield United back into the Premier League and is currently looking for a job.
