West Brom manager Steve Bruce is ‘on the brink’ of being sacked, according to The Mirror.

The Lowdown: Bottom three

The Baggies are now in the relegation zone after 12 Championship fixtures following a 1-0 defeat to Preston North End on Wednesday evening.

Bruce has guided the club to just one league win all season and has lost three of his last four in charge, creating immense pressure on his position at the Hawthorns.

However, reliable journalist Alan Nixon said prior to the defeat at Deepdale that Bruce still had people ‘backing him’ at The Hawthorns, but it looks as if that may now have changed.

The Latest: U-turn?

West Brom News relayed an update from Thursday’s edition of The Mirror regarding Bruce and West Brom.

They claimed that the 61-year-old’s reign in the Midlands ‘is on the brink’ after they fell into the bottom three, implying the loss may have been the final straw for those inside the club still supporting the former Newcastle boss.

The Verdict: Now or never

West Brom are the only side in the league with just one victory to their name from 12 games, and it looks as if now is the time when Baggies chiefs need to step in and finally call time on Bruce’s tenure.

It hasn’t been a memorable period in charge for Bruce, who has only won eight of his 31 games – a record not good enough for a side that want to be challenging for promotion.

Who knows, a change in the dugout now could still save West Brom’s season, with the club only needing to take inspiration from Nottingham Forest, who brought in Steve Cooper when they were in the bottom three last year and ended up winning promotion.
