Many West Bromwich Albion fans have been discussing the latest comment from The Athletic’s Baggies reporter, which emerged on social media after Tuesday’s defeat.
Steve Madeley tweeted after West Brom’s Premier League loss to Manchester City. His tweet said that after the 5-0 defeat, the West Brom players were locked in the club’s dressing room and Sam Allardyce had a frank and honest conversation with them. He felt that there was a ‘grilling’ taking place and Allardyce was going to fulfill the post-match media duties much later than usual.
Is Allardyce to be blamed for the Man City defeat?
Ilkay Gundogan had grabbed a brace on Tuesday, while Joao Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling also got a goal each in the game. As a consequence of the result, West Brom remained in the 19th spot in the Premier League and they have only 11 points in the bag. They have the worst goal difference in the league at -33.
After the game, Allardyce described the performance against Man City as ‘upsetting’ and he hopes that the team learnt from the defeat against the Citizens. He said that he was late to the media duties because he needed to get some of his disappointment and feelings out of the way and the players also needed to air their views about their performance.
Madeley’s tweet about Allardyce’s actions caught the attention of many West Brom fans, who made their views clear about the update.
What did West Brom fans make of Madeley’s tweet?
“A grilling won’t make any difference for these players. They simply aren’t good enough for this level I’m afraid.”
“It’s all utterly pointless.”
