### The Lowdown: Asset of Community Value

A number of Baggies supporters showed their frustrations towards owner Guochuan Lai during the 1-0 win over Blackpool on Tuesday night. Hundreds of supporters put their lights on their phones and [chanted](https://twitter.com/LewisCox_star/status/1587538680226500608) against Lai, signing “where’s the money gone?”

Cox has [stated](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2022/11/02/shareholders-4-albion-nominate-the-hawthorns-for-asset-of-community-value-as-west-brom-make-stadium-vow/) that there have been ‘concerns’ that the ground could be sold, but [news](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2022/11/02/shareholders-4-albion-nominate-the-hawthorns-for-asset-of-community-value-as-west-brom-make-stadium-vow/) emerged on Wednesday that Shareholders 4 Albion have nominated The Hawthorns for an Asset of Community Value, which will help ensure that the stadium is secured for the long run.

### The Latest: Cox reacts to Hawthorns update

Cox took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/LewisCox_star/status/1587762148725465095) to share the news regarding The Hawthorns on Wednesday morning, along with a corresponding article from the [Express & Star](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2022/11/02/shareholders-4-albion-nominate-the-hawthorns-for-asset-of-community-value-as-west-brom-make-stadium-vow/).

The reporter labelled it as ‘significant news’ for West Brom and said that the club have ‘absolutely zero plans to sell The Hawthorns’.

### The Verdict: Good news for West Brom

As Cox [mentions](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2022/11/02/shareholders-4-albion-nominate-the-hawthorns-for-asset-of-community-value-as-west-brom-make-stadium-vow/), some West Brom supporters may have been worried that Lai and co could have looked into selling buildings owned by the club, but it won’t be The Hawthorns following this update.

That will come as good news to everyone associated with the club, especially after it emerged in the summer that Lai took out a [£4.95m](https://theathletic.com/3489494/2022/06/30/west-brom-owner-guochuan-lai-took-4-95m-loan-from-club-to-help-related-company/) loan from Albion.

Nonetheless, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if there were more protests staged against Lai from the West Brom faithful, with [reports](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2022/11/01/west-brom-fans-shine-a-light-in-ownership-protest/) that further demonstrations are planned, and much of the fan base may well be hoping that he decides to sell up and move on as soon as possible.
