West Brom star Matheus Pereira has spoken to a number of clubs over a summer exit, according to an update from journalist David Anderson.
The Lowdown: Pereira stars for relegated Baggies
The Baggies will be back playing Championship football again next season, following their relegation from the Premier League in 2020/21.
There wasn’t too much to get excited about throughout the campaign, but Pereira’s form stood out, with the Brazilian scoring an impressive 11 times in the league.
Unsurprisingly, the 25-year-old has been tipped to leave West Brom in the summer transfer window, with Leeds United one of those most strongly linked with a move.
The Latest: Brazilian pushes for exit
Anderson confirms that talks have taken place with Leeds, among others, but the Whites will not follow up on that interest for the time being at least.
The Verdict: Telling
In truth, Baggies supporters will know that it is going to be extremely difficult to keep hold of Pereira ahead of next season, and Anderson’s claim that talks have taken place with multiple clubs already is pretty telling.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Alan Shearer claimed the Baggies will get loads of enquiries, due to the Brazilian’s ability to do ‘something special’ (tbrfootball).
The attacking midfielder deserves to be playing top-flight football, and while losing him would be an obvious blow, the funds generated could be spent on new signings.
In an ideal world, the £11.7million-rated Pereira would stay put and fire West Brom back into the Premier League, but it feels as though his time at the Hawthorns is reaching its conclusion, and the club must ensure they milk every penny from any possible deal so they can reinvest and bounce straight back up.
In other news, there has been another key update regarding West Brom’s search for a new manager. Read more here.
