Slaven Bilic’s side have started the season in poor form, finding themselves 17th in the Premier League with no wins in their opening six games. Having conceded 14 goals already, it is now being reported that the Croatian will look to make a move for Cook in the winter transfer window.
Could West Brom sign Steve Cook?
Whilst Bilic is interested in the £6.3m-valued defender, it is also reported that West Ham United are keen on signing the Bournemouth man, who has been described as the Cherries’ “Mr Dependable” by The Athletic writer Peter Rutzler.
Cook’s current contract at the Vitality Stadium is due to expire next summer and that could see either West Brom or the Hammers looking to make a cut-price move in January.
Should Cook arrive in January at The Hawthorns, the 29-year-old would provide competition for the likes of Semi Ajayi, Kyle Bartley, Dara O’Shea and Cedric Kipre in the centre-back positions.
Would Steve Cook be good addition for West Brom?
Whilst Cook would seemingly be a good addition, some West Brom fans may be confused as to why they are signing someone who is playing in the Championship and suffered relegation last term.
The centre-back has featured eight times for the Cherries this term, securing a respectable 7.02 out of 10 via WhoScored, and that follows a 6.72/10 for last season.
The pressure is now firmly on the likes of Ajayi and Bartley to provide West Brom with a solidity at the back, something they did last season, and it will be interesting if they can rediscover that steel given the new-found transfer links with Cook.
