# West Brom: Journalist drops Sakho claim

**Many West Bromwich Albion fans have flocked to a [tweet from West Brom news Twitter account @WBAReport](https://twitter.com/WBAReport/status/1345695367820681221) which quote-tweeted a [post from The Sun’s Alan Nixon](https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1345691954118598656) in which he said that Albion are ‘keen on’ signing Crystal Palace centre-back Mamadou Sakho.**

The Frenchman, who earns £100k-per-week at Palace, [per Spotrac](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/crystal-palace/payroll/), previously played [under Baggies boss Sam Allardyce](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sam-allardyce/eingesetzteSpieler/trainer/445/plus/0?saison_id=&verein_id=873&liga=&wettbewerb_id=) when the 66-year-old was in charge of the Eagles.

This transfer link comes after [Allardyce declared](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/uk-sports/2020/12/17/sam-allardyce-admits-january-transfer-window-could-be-key-to-west-brom-survival/) that his side’s January transfer business would play an essential role in their Premier League survival bid. With Allardyce [on the hunt for short-term fixes](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2021/01/04/sam-allardyce-targeting-a-short-term-fix-at-west-brom/) at The Hawthorns, it seems like Sakho could be on his January wishlist if Nixon’s claim is to be believed.

## **So, how did these West Brom fans react to this transfer claim?**

Nixon’s claim drew a positive reaction from plenty of West Brom fans after the journalist’s tweet was shared by @WBAReport, with many Baggies supporters indicating that they’d like to see Sakho at the West Midlands club despite the 30-year-old [not playing a very significant role for Palace this term](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mamadou-sakho/leistungsdaten/spieler/47713).

**“He’d fill a gap that needs filling. Improves on our current CB’s and could fill in at LB too if, as is the case currently, Gibbs and Townsend are injured. Sam’s got a tune out of him previously as well. Worth a punt.”**
