# West Ham: Club are struggling to sell Javier Hernandez

**Javier Hernandez’s potential exit from West Ham United isn’t looking as if it’ll be a straightforward one.**

The Mexican international joined the club in 2017 from Bayer Leverkusen for a [reported fee of £16 million per BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40669333), yet despite Hernandez’s impressive form in Germany where the striker hit [39 goals in 76 appearances in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chicharito/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50935/plus/0?saison=&verein=15&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for the Bundesliga club, Hernandez has struggled in east London.

In [61 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chicharito/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50935/plus/0?saison=&verein=379&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for the Hammers, the former Manchester United man has only managed [16 goals in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chicharito/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50935/plus/0?saison=&verein=379&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, which is perhaps why rumours suggesting the club will spend big on a striker have emerged. Obviously, Celta Vigo attacker Maxi Gomez is being touted [by the Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/westham/west-ham-line-up-maxi-gomez-transfer-as-javier-hernandez-seeks-spain-move-a4175116.html) with a move to the London Stadium, but Hernandez has seemingly made things complicated.

[According to Football Fan Cast](https://www.footballfancast.com/premier-league/west-ham/west-hams-hernandez-decision-comes-back-to-haunt-them), the club are finding it difficult to move on the 31-year-old striker this summer due to his hefty £140,000-per-week contract, which in turn has slowed down the Hammers’ transfer business this window as a whole.

Having been signed for [£16 million](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2017/july/24-july/javier-hernandez-completes-transfer-west-ham-united), the club are reportedly willing to accept a bid of £10 million for the striker as per the Football Fan Cast report, but with a goal return as poor as Hernandez’s, it’s understandable why the club are so eager to ship the Mexican off this summer.
