# West Ham: Club competing with league rivals for Valencia striker Rodrigo

**With Andy Carroll released on a free upon the end of his contract this summer and [reports from ESPN claiming](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/west-ham-united/story/3890430/sources-west-ham-want-$10-$15m-for-chicharito) that the Hammers are keen on selling Javier Hernandez, a new striker is seemingly on the agenda for West Ham.**

Indeed, plenty of names have already been thrown around as players the Hammers are interested in bringing to the London Stadium this summer, such as Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez ([ExWHUemployee](https://twitter.com/ExWHUemployee/status/1145685238057750528?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1145685238057750528&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hammers.news%2Ftransfer-news%2Finsider-claims-maxi-gomez-is-yet-to-get-what-he-wants-and-it-leaves-the-door-open-for-west-ham%2F)) and Bournemouth star Callum Wilson ([The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9342229/west-bournemouth-wilson-gomez-transfer/)).

And now, [according to the Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9404238/valencia-rodrigo-premier-league-everton-west-ham/), West Ham are interested in Valencia striker Rodrigo, who is said to be keen on a return to England, having previously appeared for Bolton, after [scoring 15 goals and assisting 10 in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rodrigo/leistungsdaten/spieler/131505/plus/0?saison=2018) for the La Liga side last season, with the report claiming that Everton are also interested in the Spanish international.

With a [Transfermarkt valuation of £45 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rodrigo/profil/spieler/131505) and a reported release clause of €120 million (£107 million) [via Football Espana](https://www.football-espana.net/73037/valencia-stick-rodrigo-%E2%82%AC120m-clause), Rodrigo is easily the most expensive striker to be linked with a move to West Ham this summer, with Gomez fetching a [Transfermarkt valuation of £36 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maximiliano-gomez/profil/spieler/396894) whilst [Wilson’s value sits at just £27 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-wilson/profil/spieler/123682).

Of course, with West Ham spending a reported £24 million on Pablo Fornals [via BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48636017), it gives off the impression that the club have money to spend this summer, but with [Football Fan Cast reporting](https://www.footballfancast.com/premier-league/west-ham/west-hams-hernandez-decision-comes-back-to-haunt-them) that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are failing to get business done due to the inability to ship off Hernandez, going big on a striker might not be the best course of action for the Hammers.

As per the Sun report, Valencia value Rodrigo at £70 million, though this number can decrease, and with West Ham in need of a striker this summer, the Spaniard could prove to be too expensive an option for the east London side.

***West Ham fans, would Rodrigo be a realistic signing? Let us know!***
