# West Ham: Dean Jones drops Kurt Zouma revelation

**Kurt Zouma earns in excess of the reported £125,000 per week at West Ham United, Dean Jones has revealed in an interview with [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/87971660-west-ham-latest-news-kurt-zouma-actually-earns-more-than-125k-p-w-at-london-stadium-revealed).**

### The lowdown

Zouma was hit with a [£250,000 fine](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12537372/kurt-zouma-rspca-takes-away-west-ham-defenders-cats-after-video) from the club after a video circulated on social media showed him harming his cat.

According to [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12537372/kurt-zouma-rspca-takes-away-west-ham-defenders-cats-after-video), that figure amounts to two weeks’ wages. [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-10499949/West-Ham-MUTINY-Stars-demand-pay-rises-cat-kicker-Kurt-Zouma-revealed-clubs-earner.html) claim he’s the Hammers’ highest-earner, and report that a ‘furious’ group of players will demand pay-rises after learning his salary.

[After the defender apologised](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12537372/kurt-zouma-rspca-takes-away-west-ham-defenders-cats-after-video), David Moyes included him in the starting line-up for Wednesday’s clash with Watford at the London Stadium.

### The latest

Jones says the £125,000 quoted isn’t actually the full extent of Zouma’s weekly earnings.

“Zouma is on big money and, actually, I’ve heard it’s more than the £125,000-a-week once you build in add-ons beyond that base wage,” [he told GMS](https://www.givemesport.com/87971660-west-ham-latest-news-kurt-zouma-actually-earns-more-than-125k-p-w-at-london-stadium-revealed).

### The verdict

Star players who are sitting down with the club to discuss a new contract now have a reference point in Zouma.

Take Tomas Soucek, for example. He’s entering the final two years of his deal, and [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/news/tomas-soucek-in-talks-with-west-ham-over-new-four-year-contract/NmBWehqLctIh/) reported at the end of last month that talks over a renewal were underway.

But he’s thought to earn only [about half](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/west-ham-united-fc/payroll/) of what Zouma makes right now, and given that Soucek was named [Hammer of the Year](https://www.whufc.com/club/history/records-and-honours/hammer-of-the-year) for 2021, he may now feel entitled to demand that his salary is doubled or even more.

Could this create another issue for the club after their [drastic failures](https://www.hammers.news/club-news/disastrous-january-window-was-actually-very-good-for-four-west-ham-players/) in the January transfer window?
