**West Ham United have entered into preliminary discussions with Rennes central-defender Nayef Aguerd as their search for defensive recruits hots up \[[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-west-ham-open-preliminary-talks-with-rennes-to-sign-aguerd/)\].**

Enjoying a solid 2020/21 season, the Morocco international was ever present for the Ligue 1 outfit making 40 appearances and registering four goal contributions; three goals and one assist \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nayef-aguerd/leistungsdaten/spieler/361914/plus/0?saison=2020)\].

Seeking reinforcements within the backline moving closer to the new campaign, the Irons have begun talks over landing the 25-year-old on a permanent deal at the London Stadium \[[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-west-ham-open-preliminary-talks-with-rennes-to-sign-aguerd/)\].

He has impressed Hammers scouts considerably, whilst could be seen as an ideal replacement for the departed [Fabian Balbuena](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/june/04-june/retained-list-issued-fabian-balbuena-depart) who departed after the expiration of his deal last month \[[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-west-ham-open-preliminary-talks-with-rennes-to-sign-aguerd/)\].

As you can imagine, loads of Irons diehards flocked to Twitter to express their opinions on recent developments.
