# West Ham: If Callum Wilson is a no-go, Moussa Marega is a solid plan B

**With Andy Carroll on the way out after six years at West Ham, the hunt is on for a new number nine at the east London side, and the search has so far been quite thorough.**

A plethora of names have been linked with a move to the London Stadium, but one player who has stood out amongst the pack is Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, but with recent reports from [the Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/westham/west-ham-manuel-pellegrini-lines-up-top-transfer-targets-new-structure-pays-off-a4173326.html) claiming that the England international is way out of West Ham’s price range, another attacker is likely going to have to fill the void in the Hammers’ XI, and a new name has already emerged.

[According to Record via the Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/787407/Moussa-Marega-Aston-Villa-West-Ham-Wolves-transfer-news), Manuel Pellegrini has turned his attention to Porto striker Moussa Marega as the answer for West Ham’s striker problem, and with a reported price tag of £31 million, we believe the attacker could be an ideal plan B option for the Hammers.

For starters, the Mali international outscored Wilson last season in all competitions when comparing the two strikers goal tallies on Transfermarkt, with [Marega](https://www.transfermarkt.com/moussa-marega/leistungsdaten/spieler/283130) hitting 21 goals and 11 assists compared to the [Bournemouth attacker’s](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/callum-wilson/leistungsdaten/spieler/123682) 15 goals and 10 assists.

As well as being more productive in front of goal, [Marega](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/303547/Show/Moussa-Marega) is statistically better than [Wilson](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/134115/Show/Callum-Wilson) when comparing the two strikers stats on WhoScored. The Porto man averages a higher shots per game ratio than his English counterpart at 3.2 to 2.2 as well as key passes at 1.2 to 1 per game.

A better goal and assist record, more reliable numbers per game and a lower price tag, Marega is a striker that West Ham should be seriously considering this summer, and the Hammers should swoop in quick before another side strikes first.

***West Ham fans, would Marega be a good signing? Let us know!***
