# West Ham: Paul Robinson urges Irons to sign Michael Keane

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) have been urged to sign Michael Keane by [his former team-mate](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paul-robinson/gemeinsameSpiele/spieler/3630/plus/0/galerie/0?gegner=0&kriterium=2&wettbewerb=&liga=&verein=1132&pos=3&status=0) Paul Robinson.**

### The Lowdown: West Ham targeting Keane

With [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/pundit-backs-west-ham-to-seal-deal-for-top-quality-craig-dawson-replacement-i-played-with-him/) detailing that Craig Dawson is now expected to leave the Hammers, David Moyes is in the market for a new centre-back in the January transfer window.

An extra reinforcement is also needed in light of recent injury woes, with Kurt Zouma undergoing surgery for a [knee problem](https://www.whufc.com/news/zouma-undergoes-knee-surgery), while Nayef Aguerd suffered a [thigh tear](https://www.claretandhugh.info/candh-exclusive-aguerd-injury-details-revealed/) during Morocco’s World Cup victory against Spain.

The [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-set-make-michael-keane-25648082) reported that the Irons are among three [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) clubs who are monitoring the 29-year-old’s situation at Goodison Park.

### The Latest: Robinson’s plea to West Ham

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/pundit-backs-west-ham-to-seal-deal-for-top-quality-craig-dawson-replacement-i-played-with-him/) about Keane, who is now [expected](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-set-make-michael-keane-25648082) to leave Everton on loan in January, Robinson waxed lyrical about the impact that the defender would have at the London Stadium.

The former England goalkeeper said: *“It is a no brainer if you ask me.* *He is a top-quality player. I played with him at two clubs, Burnley and Blackburn. He was only young at Blackburn.*

*“He has every attribute you would want in a centre-half. Yes, there is a mistake in there but he is mentally strong. He is more than capable of being a top centre-half.*

*“He is not getting his opportunity at Everton so a change might be good for him. A fresh start under a manager like David Moyes, who is very good manager, might be just what he needs. It could be a great move for both.”*

### The Verdict: Could be a decent swoop

Keane would be a decent signing for West Ham as an initial stop-gap until the end of the season, and he could be a good option to have on loan, with Moyes then able to assess whether he wants to make the move permanent.

Despite being labelled ‘[immense](https://twitter.com/prenno/status/1471599988274831375?s=20&t=CJHsOM5NhRuxhMf4oMgurg)‘ by Liverpool Echo journalist David Prentice in the past, the defender has fallen out of favour at Everton this season, only registering [one](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michael-keane/leistungsdaten/spieler/118534) appearance in the Premier League.

The fact that the 29-year-old cannot get into a struggling Toffees team may cause concern for some West Ham fans, but he would offer a lot to the defence as a backup option, as indicated by an average of [3.13](https://fbref.com/en/players/c5b7c315/Michael-Keane) aerial duels won per 90 over the past year, placing him in the 93rd percentile compared to his positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues.

A fresh start may be exactly what Keane requires to reignite his form, and Moyes should undoubtedly pursue a move for him in the January window given the Irons’s injury woes involving their current centre-backs.
