In an exclusive interview with The Transfer Tavern, former Southampton midfielder Carlton Palmer has urged Adam Armstrong to pick West Ham over his old side.

The Blackburn Rovers striker is currently being linked with a move to both clubs, with the Daily Express reporting that the Saints are currently leading the race for his signature.

Armstrong was in ridiculous form during the 2020/21 Championship season, scoring 28 goals in 40 appearances. Only the division's top scorer, Ivan Toney, managed to find the back of the net more times (33).

Bearing that in mind, it is no surprise that both West Ham and Southampton are interested in the 24-year-old.

However, if it comes down to a choice between the two, Palmer believes Armstrong should choose the former.

"I can see him looking towards Southampton because he's looking at getting regular or potentially a chance to get regular first-team football," the ex-Southampton player said.

"But if I was him and David Moyes was coming with West Ham, with the way they played this season, they've had an unbelievable season, they're in Europe next year, go and test yourself."

Armstrong's former club Newcastle are also said to be interested, so it looks like the Englishman will be spoilt for choice this summer.

With West Ham playing in the Europa League, though, the London Stadium does certainly look like an appealing option right now.
