West Ham: Insider shares Conor Coventry transfer worry

West Ham: Insider shares Conor Coventry transfer worry -West Ham News

A West Ham United insider has claimed David Moyes now faces losing another prodigy in ‘exciting’ midfielder Conor Coventry.

The Lowdown: Ashby contract concern…

The Hammers potentially have an exodus of young talents on the cards, with reports suggesting that defender Harrison Ashby is almost certain to leave the London Stadium.

Ashby had attracted Premier League interest from Newcastle United over the summer, and there were even claims that a deal to take him to St James’ Park was ‘all but done’.

However, despite that move failing to come to fruition, Moyes and the Irons still face losing the full-back sooner rather than later, with the 20-year-old’s contract expiring next June.

A move to the Magpies could therefore be back on the cards, with an insider claiming that another youngster in Coventry could be following Ashby out the door at West Ham.

The Latest: Coventry exit worry…

Indeed, Claret & Hugh state that the former MK Dons loanee is also nearing the end of his deal, which like Ashby’s expires in 2023.

They go on to suggest there is little reason for Coventry to remain in east London given that he has been handed just one first-team appearance by Moyes since returning from Stadium MK.

Claret & Hugh stated the 22-year-old is one of the ‘top’ West Ham academy prospects who ‘look set to leave’.

The Verdict: Blow for West Ham…

Hailed as ‘exciting’ by The Athletic reporter Roshane Thomas, the Irish defensive midfielder has also been likened to England superstar Declan Rice by sections of the West Ham fanbase.

Losing him without recouping a transfer fee would be a blow for Moyes and the Hammers in a similar way to Ashby, and if this flurry of academy exits continues, the east London club must reflect on how they can improve in terms of keeping their most promising talents rather than seeing them depart prematurely.
