Former Premier League defender Alex Bruce has been discussing West Ham’s prospects in the build-up to the top flight resuming and he feels that Jack Wilshere’s ability will be very important for the remainder of the season.
The midfielder has struggled for fitness since he signed in the summer of 2018, per Transfermarkt, as he has missed 61 games due to injury. However he has recently recovered from a groin problem which ruled him out of selection since last October, meaning he will be ready for the Hammers first game back against Wolves on 20 June.
Speaking to Football Insider about Jack Wilshere, Bruce said:“When you’ve got ability like Jack Wilshere has, of course.
“He can unlock any defence with his ability around the box, passing, assists, unlocking defences with his ability. As long as he can stay fit we’ve seen over the years what he’s capable of.
“That little bit of magic that Jack Wilshere has can be vital come the end of the season so I’m sure he’ll be a big plus if he’s fit.”
It’s hard to disagree with Bruce here – the midfielder has great ability and it was perfectly highlighted by his performances both as a former England international and at Arsenal, as per Transfermarkt. In 2011, he was bossing a Champions League match against Barcelona at the age of 19 and distinguishing himself against players of the ilk of Andreas Iniesta and Lionel Messi, via Givemesport.
If he can rediscover his best form over the coming weeks, he could well inspire West Ham to finish well clear of relegation. They are currently outside the bottom three only on goal difference but Wilshere at his best could be a key player to push them away from the drop zone.
