TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has provided an exciting update on West Ham United's pursuit of Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

The lowdown: Wanted man

The 20-year-old enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Southampton last season, scoring against the Hammers in the FA Cup and providing an assist in the teams' Premier League meeting at the London Stadium during a season-long spell on the south coast.

The Albania international joined up with the Chelsea squad for their pre-season tour in the USA, but he may still be deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge amidst interest from Everton, Newcastle and the Irons.

Despite the seemingly lengthy queue of potential suitors, a move is yet to materialise, and one well-informed onlooker has now shed some light on whether West Ham could sign Broja before the transfer window closes...

The latest: 'It will be West Ham'

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Crook suggested that the London Stadium is the most likely landing spot for the 14-cap Albanian.

He said: “I think if he goes anywhere, it will be West Ham for decent money. You’re talking sort of £30m. I think that will probably happen because I don’t think he’s ready for Chelsea’s first team at this moment in time.”

The verdict: Fingers crossed

Adding genuine frontline support for Michail Antonio this summer is crucial for the Irons in order to allow David Moyes to successfully compete near the top of the Premier League once again next term.

Broja scored nine goals and provided one assist in 38 appearances across all competitions for Southampton last season, earning a 6.69 Sofascore rating. He won five duels, completed one successful dribble and took 1.4 shots per game whilst predominantly operating as part of a front two in the top flight.

Those battling qualities and his ability to act in a partnership will allow Moyes the opportunity to pair the Albanian - who was described as 'very strong' by journalist Josh Bunting - with Antonio, along with rotating the two strikers.

Valued at £19.8m and under contract at Chelsea until 2026 (Transfermarkt), at the suggested fee this is certainly a deal which would make a lot of sense for GSB and Rob Newman, even ahead of the reported swoop for Sassuolo marksman Gianluca Scamacca.
