West Ham United manager David Moyes will have to cope without exciting defender Ben Johnson against Chelsea today after an update.

The Lowdown: Hammers end busy summer...

The Premier League side have just rounded off one of the busiest transfer windows and summer periods in their history.

Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet, Thilo Kehrer, Emerson and club record signing Lucas Paqueta all arrived at the London Stadium to gift supporters real hope for what could be a major campaign.

Moyes' side have started to click into gear after a torrid start to the 2022/2023 season, most recently clinching a draw at home to Spurs and notching their first victory against Aston Villa before that.

The Latest: Johnson out...

Another tough test awaits West Ham this afternoon as they take on Chelsea in the 3pm kick off.

The Hammers travel to Stamford Bridge in a bid to gain momentum and kickstart their season but Moyes is set to be without full-back Johnson for the clash.

He explained (via whufc.com):

“Ben Johnson is not available. We’re still waiting to see how Gianluca is and we’re still waiting to see how Aaron Cresswell is.

“It will be late decisions on both of them.”

The Verdict: Blow for Moyes...

Lauded as an 'exciting' full-back who 'ticks every box' by former Leeds striker Noel Whelan, the 22-year-old will certainly be a big miss with Moyes having to rely on Vladimir Coufal again.

The tenacious defender ranked in West Ham's top five for most tackles, interceptions and clearances made per 90 over 2021/2022 (WhoScored) and it's safe to say the east Londoners could have done with him as an option today.
