It seems like West Ham’s defence has received a boost as Angelo Ogbonna will reportedly be fit for the Irons first fixture back against Wolves.
According to Claret & Hugh, the defender hasn’t fully recovered from his injury at this current time, but there are hopes he will be available for the return of the Premier League.
The Italian had reportedly picked up a knock, along with forward Michail Antonio, but it looks like it is not a serious injury.
Supporters across the globe have been excitedly waiting for England’s top flight to return since it was postponed in March due to recent events. It was recently announced that it would return on the 17th June, and now Hammers fans can be even more excited as it looks like they will be able to have their strongest defence available.
With the Irons battling for survival as they sit only two points from 19th in the division, per BBC Sport, the Italian being ok for the first game back will be a huge boost.
Moyes has favoured a centre-back duo of Ogbonna paired alongside highly rated Issa Diop, and even though they have only won two of their last five, the three they lost were against Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. The victories were against teams who are also fighting for survival, and beating both Brighton and Southampton would have provided a massive lift in morale, per Sky Sports.
Meanwhile, Ogbonna’s performances have stood out as he has managed on average 1.3 tackles a game and 4.4 clearances per game, via WhoScored. Hopefully this will be a confidence boost not just for supporters but for the squad and they can pull off a great victory against Wolves.
