West Ham United are considering a move for Michael Keane in the January transfer window, according to transfer expert Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: West Ham target defender

West Ham manager David Moyes has seemingly pinpointed a new centre-back as a requirement in the upcoming window, owing to a range of issues with the current options he has available.

Craig Dawson's contract is expiring at the end of the season and he is showing no signs of wanting to commit to a new deal, while Kurt Zouma has recently undergone knee surgery and remains on the treatment table.

With Nayef Aguerd also potentially facing another setback in the form of a thigh injury, a new defender may be in order.

The Latest: Keane in Moyes' sights

Jones not only claims that Keane is of interest to Moyes, but he believes that signing him would be an astute piece of business, telling GIVEMESPORT:

“He’s not a sexy name, but I think he might be exactly the type of player they should be targeting.

“I think he’s very much in line with all the things I’m told that they are looking for. I know that he is somebody that they have considered and I think he’d be a pretty good option for them.”

The Verdict: Get it done

The Liverpool Echo have previously outlined that the Englishman is set to leave on loan in January, and a deal of this nature would be perfectly suited to the Hammers.

There may be some understandable apprehension about the signing, given that the 29-year-old has made just one Premier League appearance this season, so a short-term loan would give Moyes the chance to assess him, without having to commit to offering a permanent contract.

Not only that, but the colossus has had some good spells at Everton, as indicated by him being described as 'excellent' by Blues writer Adam Jones, and an average of 3.13 aerials won per 90 over the past year, placing him in the 93rd percentile compared to his positional peers.

The enforcer may have struggled to break into the Everton team this season, but he racked up 32 Premier League appearances last term, and 35 in the season prior, displaying the form to be a mainstay in the defence, and this could happen again at West Ham, if he is given an extended run in the team.
