West Ham: Emerson Palmieri ‘touch-and-go’ to face Leicester

West Ham: Emerson Palmieri ‘touch-and-go’ to face Leicester -Premier League News

West Ham United have been handed an injury blow after David Moyes confirmed that Emerson Palmieri is ‘touch-and-go’ for the Premier League clash against Leicester City on Saturday.

The Lowdown: Injury concerns

The Irons crashed out of the Carabao Cup following a dramatic penalty shootout loss to Blackburn Rovers in midweek, so they will be hoping to use today’s match at the London Stadium to sign off on a winning note prior to the mid-season break.

The Italy left-back was substituted in stoppage time on Wednesday after sustaining an unknown injury, although the West Ham manager has now lifted the lid on the 28-year-old’s problem, which is likely to see him ruled out of action for the team’s final outing before the World Cup.

The Latest: Emerson injury doubt

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Moyes revealed that Emerson had broken his nose against Rovers and is therefore a major doubt for today, whilst also providing an update on Maxwel Cornet.

Quoted by the club’s official website, the 59-year-old said: “Emerson is touch-and-go because he broke his nose in the midweek game. He’s had it reset but I’m not sure how he’s going to be.

“Cornet is not available. He won’t come back until after the World Cup.”

The Verdict: Don’t risk him

Whilst Moyes would benefit from having Emerson at his disposal, there’s no point risking him for one game, with the international break giving the left-back plenty of time to recover.

The Italian has two goal contributions in 13 appearances across all competitions this term and is currently averaging an 82.1% pass success rate in the top flight, showing that he is capable of making an impact when given the chance.

Securing three points against Brendan Rodgers’ visitors today could see West Ham move as high as 11th in the table by the end of today, although the likelihood is that it will have to be achieved without the Euro 2020 winner.
