West Ham United would be willing to sell Declan Rice to Manchester City if Kalvin Phillips plus cash were to come the other way, according to a report over the last 48 hours.

The Lowdown: West Ham's interest in Phillips

It was reported at the beginning of the transfer window that the Irons had reignited their interest in Phillips after making a £50m bid for him last January, with Pep Guardiola criticising the 27-year-old for returning from the World Cup 'overweight'.

The Englishman has only featured for five minutes in the Premier League this season, finding it difficult to force his way into Guardiola's plans, and the Hammers could now use Man City's interest in Rice as a bargaining chip in a deal for the former Leeds stalwart.

The Latest: Swap deal on the cards?

According to Football Insider on Saturday, West Ham could now be willing to swap Rice for Phillips plus cash this summer, amid Man City still monitoring the Irons skipper for a potential move.

Rice will have just one year remaining on his contract come the summer, so David Moyes is at a point where he risks losing the 23-year-old to the glut of elite Premier League clubs who are reportedly interested in him.

Therefore, he could look to bring Phillips the other way, as the Irons manager is considered a big admirer of the City midfielder.

The Verdict: Get it done?

With Rice showing no signs of wanting to commit to extending his stay at West Ham, Moyes now needs to think about a replacement; and Phillips would appear to be a great option, despite not managing to get regular game-time with City.

Lauded as 'incredible' by journalist Matt Law, the 27-year-old has remarkable defensive capabilities, averaging 3.79 tackles per 90 over the past year, placing him in the 99th percentile compared to his positional peers in Europe's major leagues.

The midfielder would be a ready-made replacement for his England team-mate Rice, and another perk of the proposed deal is that Moyes would also receive additional funds to strengthen other areas of the squad.

Some of that could perhaps be invested in attack, considering that the Irons have scored just 15 league goals, the joint-third lowest of any team in the top flight.
