West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski's penalty save in their Premier League game against Leicester City today was described as a ‘huge moment’ by journalist Malik Ouzia.

The Lowdown: Another home defeat for West Ham

The Irons hosted the Foxes at the London Stadium this afternoon but suffered a 2-0 defeat thanks to goals either side of the break from James Maddison and Harvey Barnes. It was their third setback at home over the past week, having also been undone by Crystal Palace and Blackburn.

One of the most notable moments of today's match was when Brendan Rodgers’ visitors were awarded a spot-kick following a challenge from Craig Dawson on Patson Daka shortly before half-time, with Youri Tielemans being denied from 12 yards by the veteran Polish goalkeeper when the visitors' lead was just 1-0.

The Latest: Ouzia’s reaction

Taking to Twitter, Ouzia praised Fabianski’s save, which appeared to give West Ham a significant lifeline at that time until Leicester doubled their lead later in the match.

He wrote: “Saved! Fabianski comes up trumps for West Ham to deny Tielemans. Huge moment, because they'd been coming back into the game, too.”

The Verdict: Underwhelming season

Whilst David Moyes’ side initially did well to keep themselves in the game thanks to that Fabianski penalty save, the start that they have made to this season has been hugely underwhelming.

The Irons have only recorded four wins in their opening 15 Premier League games and currently find themselves 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.

West Ham had yet another disappointing day at the office and this isn’t the way they would have wanted to sign off before the World Cup break, but it’s important that they now use the six-week layoff to regroup in a bid to revive their ailing form once club action resumes in the final week of 2022.
