Broadcaster India Willoughby has heaped praise on West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca after his debut against Premier League champions Man City.

The Lowdown: Hammers fall...

The Hammers faced a tough test against one of England's leading lights and appeared to struggle with their composure and dictation of play right from the first whistle.

On a comfortable afternoon for City and Pep Guardiola, the headlines will belong to marquee summer signing Erling Haaland after his brace at the London Stadium.

The Norway superstar converted a first half penalty after goalkeeper Alphonse Areola brought him down, adding to his tally on 65 minutes when Kevin De Bruyne played him through on goal.

Haaland opened his body up and coolly slotted the ball past Areola for his second goal, with Irons manager David Moyes now going back to the drawing board and preparing his team to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat.

The Latest: Scamacca shines...

However, as explained by Willoughby, one silver lining in the defeat comes in the form of Scamacca's Premier League debut, with the Italian looking fairly bright in patches after he was brought on.

The broadcaster stated"Getting Ravanelli vibes for Scamacca. Going to be a star player this season."

The Verdict: Correct...

Replacing Michail Antonio on 57 minutes, the 23-year-old certainly attempted to get involved and often popped up with moments of real promise.

Scamacca also forced a brilliant diving save from Ederson, and although his effort would have been ruled offside anyway, West Ham have arguably been missing a vocal point to aim for in the forward positions except Antonio.

The Italian wasn't afraid to put himself about, either, winning three of his five duels and completing 100% of his passes, as per Sofascore.

If the 6 foot 4 striker displays intent like that every week, he could indeed go on to become a star for Moyes' West Ham side.
