West Ham: Robinson praises Moyes after ‘£196m’ revelation

West Ham: Robinson praises Moyes after ‘£196m’ revelation -West Ham News

West Ham United and manager David Moyes have been praised by Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson after a CIES Football Observatory study into their net spend.

The Lowdown: Irons enjoy busy summer…

Irons head coach Moyes has enjoyed a brilliant 2022 summer transfer window with the club completing eight major new signings in total.

West Ham signalled their statement of intent to the rest of the Premier League with some head-turning deals, including a club record move for Brazil international Lucas Paqueta from Lyon.

Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet, Thilo Kehrer and Emerson also joined the club, with CIES sharing West Ham amounted the sixth highest net spend of any side in Europe.

Indeed, the east Londoners’ net spend totalled a seismic £196 million, perhaps signalling the club’s real ambition.

The Latest: Robinson praises West Ham…

Speaking to Football Insider, former Spurs keeper turned pundit Robinson reacted to this news and says, despite their tough start, it’s only a ‘matter of time’ before the points start rolling in.

He explained:

“Moyes has a lot of credit in the bank.

“Yes, the performances this season have not been great but they have overachieved in the last two seasons.

“I was at the Brighton game and that was their poorest performance of the season. That was not a David Moyes team.

“They deserved a lot more against Chelsea though. The first half was very poor from both sides but West Ham played well in the second half. The officials cost them a result.

“I think it is only a matter of time before they start picking up points. I don’t think Moyes is under any pressure though.”

The Verdict: Real quality…

West Ham now possess much more quality and depth in crucial areas of the squad, most notably up front with the signings of Gianluca Scamacca and Paqueta.

Moyes will need every available body to compete in a congested calendar before this year’s winter World Cup in Qatar, but given the players who have now come in, we believe the Hammers will be in very good shape.
