West Ham United have made a bid for Torino full-back Ola Aina, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The lowdown

The Hammers are seemingly intent on signing a new right-back before the end of the transfer window tonight. They appear to have turned their attention to the 25-year-old after Manchester United rebuffed their approach for Aaron Wan-Bissaka (via talkSPORT).

Aina came through the youth ranks at Chelsea before he was sold to Torino for £8.82m in 2019.

The Nigerian, who spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Fulham, is into the final 12 months of his contract with the Serie A outfit.

The latest

Di Marzio tweeted that 'West Ham have sent a bid' to Torino, but it falls short of Il Toro's asking price.

The Irons have proposed an €8m (£6.9m) package, with €4m (£3.45m) guaranteed and a further €4m potentially arriving in add-ons.

However, Torino want a €10m (£8.6m) deal, with €6m (£5.18m) guaranteed and another €4m in add-ons.

The verdict

What qualities could Aina bring to the London Stadium?

Based on his FBRef profile, he'd be able to get West Ham up the pitch (76th percentile for progressive passes, 72nd for progressive carries) and he can also pop up in dangerous areas himself (73rd percentile for touches in the attacking penalty area).

Statistically speaking, he's similar to Southampton duo Kyle Walker-Peters and Valentino Livramento, as well as Chelsea's Marc Cucurella.

Some within the Nigerian media have dubbed the 26-year-old 'inexhaustible', while he has also been praised for his capacity to play in different positions.

Fulham podcaster Sammy James billed Aina, who can also play as a right winger, centre-back, left-back and left winger, as 'Mr Versatile', and he could be a tremendous asset to David Moyes' squad at the London Stadium if GSB can bring him in this evening.
