Premier League side West Ham have been linked with a move for Sampdoria star Mikkel Damsgaard.
Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham have been linked with a move for Damsgaard, but it now seems as if the Hammers are also looking at the possibility of signing the Sampdoria winger.
Should West Ham move for Damsgaard?
West Ham held a meeting for Damsgaard
Sampdoria-oriented outlet Club Doria (via Sport Witness) have issued an update about Damsgaard situation, saying that while Tottenham are interested, they’ve not presented any offer for the player. Juventus and Inter also like the 20-year-old Dane. Interest from the Hammers has also been reported, saying that a meeting was held with the East London side as West Ham initiated contact.
The report also states that it is unlikely that the winger leaves Sampdoria, but opportunities to sell him in the summer might arrive for his club.
It has previously been reported that even Milan have scouted Damsgaard and this clearly suggests that there is no shortage of parties who might be looking to challenge West Ham for the 20-year-old.
Samp boss Claudio Ranieri has previously praised Damsgaard and fellow Sampdoria youngster Kristoffer Askildsen: “They made their debut in the senior national team, a sign that our scouts have chosen players who have a big future ahead of them.”
The 20-year-old arrived at Sampdoria in the summer of 2020, but he has played 18 games in the current campaign while scoring twice and getting three assists already.
Damsgaard would be a good buy for West Ham
In the current campaign, Damsgaard has generated an Expected goals per 90 minutes tally of 0.15. He has also picked up an Expected Assists per 90 minutes tally of 0.07 in the campaign. For Nordsjaelland in the 2019/20 season, he scored 11 league goals and got six assists (as per FBRef).
He is a left-winger by trade and the Hammers only have Said Benrahma as an out-and-out option for that position. So Damsgaard could add ability and depth to the team and signing him could be a good move for West Ham.
