West Ham United: Pundit slams Scamacca and Paqueta amid David Moyes criticism

West Ham United: Pundit slams Scamacca and Paqueta amid David Moyes criticism -West Ham News

West Ham United duo Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta have not turned up for the club this season, according to talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor

The Lowdown: West Ham’s summer signings

The east London club had a rather busy summer transfer window in terms of the number of new players they signed, including the likes of Scamacca and Paqueta for a significant amount of money.

However, with nine defeats from their 14 Premier League games in the current campaign, this has not been the start that the Hammers would have hoped for, and has ultimately allowed pressure and criticism to build on David Moyes.

Now that domestic football has taken a pause to make way for the World Cup in Qatar, this has led to some reflection being made on what the problem is at West Ham, with Agbonlahor taking aim at two summer signings, in particular.

The Latest: Agbonlahor slams Scamacca and Paqueta

Speaking to Football Insider, the talkSPORT pundit and former Aston Villa player had this to say on the matter.

He said: “For me, Moyes has brought in these new signings and they’ve spent £170million, £180million in the summer and these players haven’t turned up.

“Paqueta, Scamacca, these players haven’t done anywhere near enough and are letting their manager down. These players have got to turn up.

“David Moyes has got a lot of credit in the bank from what he did last season.

“I’m sure these players will turn up and it will be fine but I’m sure it will be a 10th or 11th-place finish this season rather than a top-eight.”

The Verdict: Players need to step up

With Scamacca making 13 league appearances this season and Paqueta making eight, the duo have produced a combined total of four goal contributions between them.

While it can be said that the pair have not set the world alight at the London Stadium, they may need more time to settle into the club and English football before they hopefully become more consistent in terms of their attacking numbers.

Now that the campaign has been put on hold to make way for the World Cup, where Paqueta will be representing Brazil, everyone at the east London club will undoubtedly be hoping that the summer recruits and the rest of the players will get back to club action in good shape and turn their fortunes around from what has been a poor start to the season.
