Speaking to Football Insider, regular talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has waxed lyrical over the potential return of Michail Antonio – coming as David Moyes confirmed he is ‘getting closer’ to a return.
Antonio, who has been out for the last three weeks with a hamstring injury, has made his full return to training and could be available for the Hammers’ trip to Sheffield United on Sunday.
Should Antonio start against Sheffield United?
Yes, bring him in now Moyes
No, ease him in gently
The Englishman has been a focal point for the team as West Ham’s out-and-out centre-forward, outshining natural striker Sebastien Haller and jumping ahead of him in Moyes’ pecking order this season.
West Ham have been without the 30-year-old over these last few weeks, with supporters potentially thankful for the international break, and Moyes hasn’t ruled out his return against the Blades.
“Sheffield United will not be happy that Antonio is back.
“I like him a lot, he’s direct, he’s strong, he’s quick, he’s aggressive and he can score goals. He’s going to cause a lot of defences a lot of trouble this season.
“West Ham fans will be over the moon that he’s back because unfortunately for them Haller is not the ideal replacement for Antonio or West Ham.
“The style that they play with the 5-4-1 suits Antonio a lot more than Haller.”
Transfer Tavern take
Whether or not Antonio is fit to start against the Yorkshire side is still up for debate, but his return to the bench at least could indeed be a massive boost for the club.
