As confirmed by West Ham United through their official website, summer signing Alex Kral is still out and will miss today's highly-anticipated London derby clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lowdown: Irons snap up another Czech ace...

The Irons were linked with a move for the highly-rated Czech Republic international throughout the summer transfer window but it took until the very last day to finally land their man.

Kral signed for West Ham on a season-long loan, with the club also possessing an option to make his move permanent at the end of this season.

Whenever he's been available so far, the 23-year-old has been used as a rotational option to first teamers Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in defensive midfield. However, as West Ham confirm team news for today, they have shared an update on his availability.

The Latest: Kral out of Spurs clash...

As announced in a match preview, the Hammers have said that Kral is still unavailable after he contracted a viral infection and will miss today's clash against Tottenham.

The defensive colossus also missed their last match against Genk in the Europa League and was unable to provide cover in midfield as a result.

Moyes will also be without the luxury of bringing him on to add more steel to West Ham's midfield today, although the 23-year-old could come back into the fold over the middle of next week.

The Verdict: Blow for Moyes?

Kral comes as a particularly useful asset when trying to hold on to a lead or simply as an extra defensive option off the bench, as evident by his impressive debut against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup last month.

The Hammers were able to shut out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side 1-0 largely due to his presence, with the Spartak Moscow loanee making a game-high three interceptions and five successful tackles over the 90 minutes (SofaScore).

Lauded as a 'quality option' by BBC Sport contributor Premier League Panel, Moyes could miss him depending on West Ham's defensive requirements for today.
