According to The Mirror, West Ham United are considering a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer.

The Lowdown: Moyes’ striker hunt

David Moyes has been keen to bring a new striker to the London Stadium for a while to provide competition and cover for Michail Antonio, but the 59-year-old is yet to find an alternative to the Jamaica international.

The Irons have been linked with a number of attackers this summer, including Armando Broja and Gianluca Scamacca, but it now appears that the Scot’s ideal candidate might be closer to home than many might have imagined.

The Latest: West Ham eyeing Toney

The Mirror reported that West Ham, alongside Premier League rivals Manchester United, Newcastle and Leeds, are ‘keen’ on a deal for Toney this summer.

The source claimed that the Irons are ‘on the lookout’ for a potent goalscorer, and that the Bees’ centre-forward ‘fits the bill’ of what GSB and co are seeking, with Moyes ‘understood to be an admirer’ of the 26-year-old.

The Verdict: Perfect for Moyes

Toney has all the pace, movement and natural finishing that West Ham require in the final third, and he would be a fantastic addition to the starting XI.

The £31k-per-week dynamo, who Brentford manager Thomas Frank claimed has the mindset of a ‘lion’, enjoyed a hugely successful debut season as a top-flight regular, netting 12 goals and registering five assists (via Transfermarkt).

Standing at 6 foot 2, Toney would be able to provide a real focal point up top for the Hammers and already knows what it takes to compete at the highest level of English football, so he would surely suit Moyes' project ideally.
