West Ham United has been named as a "dream" future transfer destination for FC Basel left-back Riccardo Calafiori.

The Lowdown: Calafiori's career so far

After working his way through AS Roma's youth ranks and making 18 senior appearances for the club, nine of which came under Jose Mourinho, the 20-year-old joined Basel during the summer.

Since then, the left-back has made 10 appearances for the Swiss club but has yet to score a goal or provide an assist for his new employers.

Despite only being at Basel for a few months, Calafiori has already been expressing some "dream" future destinations, name-checking two Premier League clubs.

The Lowdown: West Ham a 'dream' destination for Calafiori

Speaking to Cronache di Spogliatoio (via Voce Giallorossa) Calafiori was asked where he sees himself in five years, with West Ham getting a mention.

He replied: "I have two images: to return to Italy, maybe to Roma, or my dream would be to play in the Premier League. I really like West Ham or Chelsea."

The Verdict: A future option for West Ham

Across his eight Swiss Super League games this season, the Italian has delivered 22 crosses, leaving only five other players at Basel with more. This highlights what the youngster can offer to his team, particularly from an attacking point of view.

Having also made two appearances in the Europa Conference League this season, in which he has made four interceptions and five tackles, this also highlight his defensive ability in addition to his crossing acumen.

Bearing in mind how West Ham left-back Aaron Cresswell is set to see his contract at the London Stadium expire at the end of the season, Calafiori could well end up being an option that the Irons consider as a potential long-term replacement for the 32-year-old.

However, the best thing for the east London club to do would be to wait and see if the Italian ends up having a successful debut season with Basel before considering making his dream come true and bringing him to the Premier League.
