Journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update regarding reported West Ham United target Jakub Kiwior.

The Lowdown: Interest in Kiwior

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Hammers are interested in signing the Spezia defender, who is currently representing Poland in Qatar at the World Cup.

Having played the full 90 minutes of Poland's recent group games against Mexico and Saudi Arabia, the defender has helped his country keep two clean sheets.

Now though, it appears that some details have emerged surrounding the player and what the future may hold for him.

The Latest: Romano drops Kiwior update

In a recent Twitter post, Romano had this to say about Kiwior, his future and West Ham's previous interest in him.

"Spezia want €15/20m to sell Jakub Kiwior in 2023 as there are many clubs interested in Serie A. Spezia hope to keep Kiwior at least until June. West Ham approached Spezia to sign Kiwior last summer but deal collapsed as he was untouchable."

The Verdict: An opportunity?

To highlight his defensive attributes, the centre-back has made more clearances (58) than any other Spezia player in Serie A this season, as well as having the fourth-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (39) at the club.

A deal between West Ham and Kiwior collapsed during the previous summer transfer window but he could now be available in the next summer period, so the Hammers may reignite their interest in the player knowing that it could be possible to sign him this time around.

Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna's contracts are set to expire at the end of the season, so if one or both of those players were to leave the club, this could pave the way for the east London club to bring Kiwior in as a potential replacement.
