# West Ham: Irons submit offer for Nicolo Zaniolo

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) have submitted an offer to sign AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo this month, according to journalist [Ciro Venerato](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/people/ciro-venerato/).**

### The Lowdown: Zaniolo wants to leave

The Italian international has now entered the final [18 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/as-rom/berateruebersicht/verein/12) of his contract at the Stadio Olimpico and has been linked with an exit after his manager, Jose Mourinho, [admitted](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1617244363691524100) that he has asked to leave the club before the end of the window.

[Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) clubs Tottenham and Newcastle have both been credited with an [interest](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21152997/newcastle-tottenham-transfer-roma-nicolo-zaniolo/) in the 23-year-old alongside the Irons, but Serie A giants AC Milan are also in a strong position in the race for his signature.

The Roma maestro has [reportedly](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2023/01/25/tottenham-transfer-news-nicolo-zaniolo-has-agreed-personal-terms-with-ac-milan/) agreed personal terms to join Stefano Pioli’s side, but with money typically the most important factor when it comes to finalising a deal, a late swoop has been made.

### The Latest: West Ham make bid

Speaking to 1 Station Radio (via Tutto Juve and [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/journalist-says-west-ham-placed-bid-player-morning-linked-hammers-avoiding-relegation/)), Venerato revealed that West Ham tabled an offer to sign Zaniolo on Tuesday morning.

*“An offer from West Ham was also made this morning, a loan with an obligation to buy linked to avoiding relegation set at €25m (£22m).”*

*“If Roma accepted this formula, rejected for now, it would be the highest proposal.”*

### The Verdict: Get it done…

Zaniolo has been [hailed](https://twitter.com/zachlowy/status/1102638759617744896?s=46&t=9DAXANRaYtf3DgTNDquNBA) a ‘lethal playmaker’ by journalist [Zach Lowy](https://twitter.com/ZachLowy) and the London Stadium outfit need to do everything they can to fend off their competitors and get this deal over the line.

The [Nike-sponsored](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nicolo-zaniolo/profil/spieler/392085) star currently ranks in the [96th](https://fbref.com/en/players/9907b1c8/Nicolo-Zaniolo) percentile for most shots per 90 minutes from players in his position and offers plenty of versatility with the ability to operate in [three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nicolo-zaniolo/leistungsdaten/spieler/392085) different attacking midfield roles.

Declan Rice is facing an [uncertain](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12791512/declan-rice-talks-up-arsenal-to-his-west-ham-team-mates-following-reported-interest-in-england-midfielder-paper-talk) future at the club so a midfield reinforcement will definitely be required should he depart, and Zaniolo would be a hugely exciting long-term addition, albeit in a more advanced role.
