# West Ham: Michael Brown raises doubts about Said Benrahma

**Some West Ham supporters may have been disappointed when deadline day signing [Said Benrahma](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/irons-fans-fume-said-benrahma-omission-man-city/) didn’t feature against Manchester City last weekend.**

The former Brentford winger was not named in the [matchday squad](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/players/said-benrahma-missed-out-west-19159384), with manager David Moyes saying he [wasn’t ready yet.](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/players/said-benrahma-missed-out-west-19159384)

Former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown has subsequently chipped in with his thoughts on why Moyes did not use Benrahma last week.

### Brown has doubts about Benrahma

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/pundit-exclusive-this-may-be-real-reason-benrahma-frozen-out-by-moyes-at-west-ham/), Brown said: “It just shows you there’s something maybe lacking in that team ethic that David Moyes expects.

“Maybe he feels and he’s seen that he’s just not ready. I think he wants to get him in there when he feels it’s the right time, rather than put him when it’s a bit tight.

“Let’s be honest, you’re at home to Man City, he just thinks: ‘I’ll leave him a little bit longer,’ but it doesn’t get easier when you go to Liverpool.”

### Benrahma was “magnificent” at Brentford

The winger had a terrific campaign last season for Brentford as he scored 17 goals and also supplied nine assists, per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/137021/History/Sa%C3%AFd-Benrahma). He often proved a menace for opposition defences, as highlighted by his remarkable averages of 3.8 shots, 2.1 key passes and three dribbles per game.

He earned a lot of praise from his time in the Championship, including from his former manager Thomas Frank, who called him [‘magnificent’.](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/brentford/news/thomas-frank-heaps-praise-on-magnificent-said-benrahma_388448.html)

It looks like the Irons have a talent on their hands and he could be the ideal player to fill the void left by [Grady Diangana](https://sportslens.com/mark-noble-reacts-as-grady-diangana-leaves-west-ham-united-for-west-bromwich-albion/311770/#:~:text=West%20Ham%20United%20have%20announced,best%20in%20his%20future%20career.)‘s departure to West Brom.

His direct nature might make it seem like he is sometimes not a team player, but his flair for taking defences on by himself should not be seen as a negative. It suggests that he has an abundance of confidence and, if Moyes can get him working with the team, then he could be a real threat for the Irons.
